So we bought this property...

As I write this first post for the story of The Frontier, I wonder where this statement might take us: "So we bought this property..."

Here's how this story starts. Ever since my dad died and I thought about buying a little parcel of land adjoining my family farm, I've wanted to own raw land.  Something I can work on and make better.  When Husband and I sold an investment property recently, we decided to look at places around home that we could develop.  We looked at close to 20 parcels of land ranging in acreage from 1 to 50 but when we were let loose by realtor #1 in the development we call the Wild West, we immediately saw huge potential on a lot at the top of a ridge.  The change in Husband when we walked this property was notable - I could almost hear the new heartbeat of a frontiersman begin to beat in him.

Here are some pictures from our first couple of visits before we made the purchase offer and during the intense due diligence period.

There is sure to be lots of wildlife here.  This is a porcupine.

The due diligence was touch and go. Because of the position of this parcel on the ridge top, there were certain steps we needed to go through to make sure we could build a dwelling on it and we didn't want to buy unless we had that assurance.  It came down to the day of closing before I felt good about being able to do that.

So the deal went through on March 2, 2015 and we took another tour of the property a couple of weeks later.

So far, we've been up a couple of more times to start clearing the dead fall and start envisioning where to put the dwelling, driveway, septic tank, utilities, and all those other goodies. We are dreaming!

This blog will document the work we will do to develop this 10+ acres of land in Utah.

  3. What an incredible place - you're going to love living there. Bet it'll be a bit of a challenge getting some of the materials there, though - pretty isolated! But all those trees look amazing, and I'm sure the views will be stunning all year round. Great choice of land!
